Southville is sometimes referred to by locals, with slight irony, as ‘Lower Clifton’. Perhaps best known as the home of the nationally acclaimed ‘Tobacco Factory Theatre’, it also boasts bars, restaurants and many independent local shops. There is also a large supermarket within walking distance. The area is renowned as a centre for artists, who open their homes to sell their art. Southville has two large parks and a Grade 11 Listed swimming pool. It is a cosmopolitan area within walking distance of Temple Meads, whilst the City Centre is a 10 minute walk. Bristol has two major Universities and leading independent schools such as Q.E.H. and Bristol Grammar School, also major shopping centres at Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway.
