The town has a busy shopping centre and is home to many new technology businesses on the outskirts of the town. Both Sainsburys and Somerfield are already in Melksham whilst Asda is opening a new store shortly. The town has numerous primary and secondary schools and is home to the independent girls boarding school, Stonar School.
