Frome is an historic market-town in north-east Somerset at the eastern end of the Mendip Hills and 13 miles south of Bath. The town has a population of around 25,000 people with a large number of listed buildings in the centre which is mainly a conservation area. The town has cobbled streets leading into the centre and many 16th and 17th century small houses. The town is also modern with a thriving retail area, Sainsburys, banks and building societies, markets every Wednesday and Saturday, two theatres, a cinema and Arts Centre, two local newspapers and a museum. The town is served by many primary schools, two middle schools and Frome Community College as well as Farleigh College Independent School. Frome also has a Leisure Centre with swimming pool and Gym. The town is most noted today for its thriving Arts scene and as the home of Jenson Button, the former Formula 1 world champion. Frome is 13 miles south of Bath with leading Universities, a rich cultural history, stunning architecture and an excellent shopping centre with many varied and independent shops. The City Centre is also home to the Theatre Royal Bath and the world famous Roman Baths. The Jane Austen Centre is another tourist attraction and the City enjoys an all year round thriving tourist industry.
