The village is over 20 miles north-west of Exeter with a population approaching 1000 people. This pretty Devon village has a hotel, pubs, café, post office and shop, a village church and is some 3 miles from the nearest railway station. There are extensive views of Dartmoor from the village which is itself set in an elevated location. The Tarka Trail and the Two Moors Way coastal walk, which passes through Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, are accessible from here as are nearby forest walks. Chulmleigh has further amenities including a sports centre, golf club and cricket club. Chulmleigh Community College is rated as Good by Ofsted with independent education available at Mount Kelly in Tavistock and also at West Buckland school. The City of Exeter has a wonderful Cathedral at its centre and has all the amenities of a major City, as well as being home to Exeter University.
