The area is characterised as rural but is within a couple of miles of the town of St Austell, which has all the services and amenities you would expect. St Austell is 10 miles south of Bodmin and 30 miles west of the border with Devon.
St Austell has a selection of primary and secondary schools, a hospital, many pubs and restaurants and recreational facilities.
St Austell is served by all Great Western Railway trains on the Cornish Main Line between Penzance and Plymouth with two trains per hour in each direction. Some trains run through to or from London Paddington station via Exeter St Davids, including the Night Riviera overnight sleeping car service. There are a limited number of CrossCountry trains providing a service to destinations such as Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, Manchester Piccadilly, Leeds, York, Edinburgh and Glasgow Central in the morning and returning in the evening.
Regular bus services run from St Austell, which is also served by the A390. The bus stop to connect with St Austell and Newquay is at the bottom of Peters Hill, approximately 250-300M, on the A3058, which is the main St Austell to Newquay road. The Bus station at St Austell is also the Train station where a train can be caught to the City of Truro or the City of Plymouth. Cornwall Airport is approximately 10 miles to the West, where there are regular flights to London, Manchester and some European countries.
