Thornbury is a large market town with a population exceeding 12000 people, around 12 miles north of Bristol. The town has a thriving High Street and shopping centre as well as two supermarkets and many smaller shops, restaurants and pubs. Notable buildings include the Grade 1 Listed 16th century Thornbury Castle, now a hotel and restaurant and the 12th century St. Marys Church. The town has both secondary and primary schools, including The Castle School and many amenities including a golf club and tennis club, a leisure centre and football and rugby clubs. There are some pleasant walks in the area notably The Heritage Trail, the Streamside Walk and also Filmore Woods. The town is within easy driving distance of Cribbs Causeway, one of Bristol’s major shopping centres, and from there onto the City Centre.
